Primaries are supposed to be about selecting candidates for the party you identify with, not about selecting from a buffet of candidates. The intent is blurred, I guess, by the open primary rules. The current rules that heavily favor the two main parties also get in the way. Those are separate issues from what we’re trying to do as voters. The August elections are about those interested in the parties choosing who will represent their party in November.

Or, at least, that’s what should be happening.
