Inkster Night Out is set for Tuesday
Next Tuesday, Inkster residents have a very important date with Police Chief Gregory Gaskin.
Gaskin has urged the entire community to join the “going away celebration for crime, drugs and violence in our neighborhoods,” planned fro 5 until 9 p.m. at Colonial Park. The event is part of a nonprofit, crime prevention organization effort, America’s Night Out Against Crime, introduced in 1984. That first year, 400 communities in 23 states participated. Last year, 35.4 million people in 11,310 communities in all 50 states participated in the event in their cities.
Residents who are unable to attend the event in the park are urged to keep their porch lights on as a demonstration of support for the effort.
“We want citizens of all ages, all community groups, elected officials, block clubs, churches and youth organizations to join us,” Gaskin said in a prepared statement.
There will be food, fun, prizes, karaoke, moon bouncers and special guests at the event, according to Inkster Police Ofc. William Ratliff.
Colonial Park is located at Inkster Road and Colonial Drive about a quarter mile north of Michigan Avenue.
More information is available from Ratliff at (313) 820-0215.
