Belleville events for Dec. 5
Winterfest Christmas Parade set
The 3rd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, part of Winterfest 2009, will begin a 1½ mile march through downtown from the Belleville High School parking lot at 6 p.m. Dec. 5.
Entry forms must be returned by tomorrow to the Belleville Chamber of Commerce office at 248 Main St. or faxed to (734) 697-1415.
The theme this year is Nostalgic Winter Wonderland, and the event will include a hot dog dinner for a nominal fee at the high school cafeteria beginning at 3 p.m. There will be fireworks display over Belleville Lake after the parade at about 7:30 p.m. and ice sculptures on display throughout the downtown area all day. Due to the fireworks, the Denton Road Bridge will be closed for a short time.
Santa will join everyone on the Historical Museum lawn to light the Christmas tree. He will then greet children at the First United Methodist Church on Charles Street.

Angel of Hope service planned
The annual Angel of Hope Memorial Service will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at Hillside Cemetery in Belleville.
This is a short but solemn evening set aside to remember deceased children.
To have a child’s name read aloud as part of the remembrance, phone the Brown Family Center, (734) 697-5090.
The cemetery is located at 46785 Denton Road.
Ornament workshops set
Children will have three opportunities to make Christmas ornaments at the Belleville Area Museum during workshops planned for 10 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 12.
Children will make five old-fashioned ornaments to take home during the sessions which cost $2 per child and includes a tour of the museum Festival of Holiday Trees.
Santa will be on hand for photos from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Festival of Trees under way
The 14th annual Festival of Holiday Trees is now under way at the Belleville Area Museum and will continue until Dec. 30.
The exhibit fills the entire museum and features more than 50 trees and wreaths decorated by community organizations, schools, churches, businesses and individuals.
This year, the display will include a silent auction of five trees; a Santa Tree, a Snowman Tree, a Toothpick Tree, a “Handmade Christmas” tree and a “Roses in December” tree.
Bidding will end Dec. 15.
All proceeds from the auction will support projects and programs at the museum, open from noon until 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. It will be closed Dec. 24-28 and open Dec. 29 and 30.

Charity Poker Tournament set
A no limit Texas Hold ‘Em charity poker tournament will begin at 2 p.m. Dec. 19, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 at the Belleville Moose Lodge 934.
Registration for the tournaments will begin at noon. The top prize is $1,000 or more. There will also be Texas Hold ‘Em and Black Jack cash games before, during and after the tournament.
