Award winner named best student

Julia Leake has been awarded the highest honor at Rawsonville Elementary School in Belleville: The Principal’s Award.

She was nominated by teachers, as well as principal Sue Farber.

“Julia was an excellent student, musically talented and friendly to all the kids,” Farber said. “She earned the respect and admiration of staff and students and wasn’t afraid to be friends with anyone.”

As part of the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principal Association, the award recognizes a student from the exiting grade of the school who is deserving of exemplary achievement, according to the organization.

Leake, an 11-year-old who just completed the fifth grade, was the best all-around student, Farber said.

Her parents, Russell and Carol Leake, said they could not be more proud of their daughter.

“It was a big honor for her,” said Carol Leake. “She always does very well in school and we were pleased as punch she did so well in the fifth grade.”

When the award winning student is not busy with school, she also enjoys horseback riding, singing, playing music and remaining active in church and Girl Scouts, her mother said.

Leake will attend North Middle School in the fall.
