Two charged in Sumpter murder
Two people were charged recently for the murder of a Sumpter Township woman.
Twenty-year-old Kyron Darrell Benson, of Ypsilanti Township and eighteen-year-old Paula Rena Bennett of Van Buren Township, were charged last week for the murder of Stephanie Michelle McClure.
McClure, 22, was found lying on the 300 block of Utah Court in the Holiday West Mobile Home Community on Oct. 6 with multiple gunshot wounds. She was found next to her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police conducted several search warrant raids and received citizens tips and interviews, which led to the arrest of two suspects on Oct. 7.
The suspects were arraigned on Oct. 10 at the 34th District Court in Romulus in front of Judge Brian Oakley. Benson was charged with one count of premeditated murder in the first degree, possession of firearms, felony of firearms and as a second time habitual offender. Bennett was charged with one count of premeditated murder in the first degree. Benson is being held with no bond and Bennett is being held on a $1 million or 10 percent bond.
Police said because of the assistance and cooperation of area agencies the suspects were taken into custody in a timely manner without incident.
