Crescent Academy Summer Festival is Saturday
Like the school that hosts it, the Crescent Academy Summer Festival continues to grow.
The one-day event, which typically draws between 600-1,000 people to the grounds of the private Islamic school on Palmer Road, has been a mainstay in Canton Township for a decade.
“It’s evolved over time,” said Sumreen Jilani, a community volunteer. “As the school itself has developed over time, the nature of the festival has consistently done so,”
In March, the school opened the doors on a $7 million, 60,000 square-foot expansion that doubled the student capacity. Tours of the new center and mosque will be available during the event, which takes place from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday.
Vendors will on hand as well, selling clothes, jewelry, artwork, books, household items, and a variety of international foods.
Jalani said the purpose extends beyond the families affiliated with the school, in the spirit of reaching a “common understanding.”
“What we really want to do is draw everyone from the community, Muslim and non-Muslim,” she said.
The festival is free for attendees, but there is a cost for rides, food and vendor items. Attractions also include a petting zoo. Proceeds from ride and food sales benefit the school. Last year, the fundraising event generated $14,000.
Crescent Academy International is located at 40440 Palmer Road in Canton.
