Crews repair damaged water main
A public works crew in Canton Township shut off water to some Ford Road businesses Thursday afternoon to repair a water main break.
Meijer, Wendy’s and other businesses west of the Fellows Creek bridge construction project were among those without water for about 45 minutes while workers repaired the main. Construction workers who were installing a gas main for the Fellows Creek bridge project on Ford disrupted the main sometime yesterday, according to Mike Karll, superintendent of public works.
Township crews came out to repair the break at 11 a.m. Thursday. By 4 p.m., a half-dozen public works employees were completing the fixes.
“We didn’t get a total shutdown (of water to area businesses) until 2:30 or quarter to three,” said Karll.
He guessed that the line was an old service tap to the Chicken Shack on the north side of Ford.
Business were able to cope with the temporary disruption. Portable toilets were placed in front of Meijer to accommodate shoppers while restrooms were out of order.
Construction workers continued work on the bridge, which is being entirely replaced. Karll said this was the first problem reported in connection with the state-funded project, due to wrap up in November.
