Canton Lions Club members Karl Zarbo (foreground) and John Chew are part of the team making delicious pancakes and sausage on the Liberty Fest parade route last year. The Canton Lions will again provide a good breakfast with a good view on Saturday morning.
The service club will host their annual pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. on Ford Road-which is directly on the Liberty Fest parade route.
The concept is the same-to generate funds for charitable causes-but the location is different, said John Chew, chair of the event. They’ll move to the parking lot of Elite Eye Care, which is between Sheldon and Canton Center roads.
“Elite Eye Care has been our partner in eye glass collections for years and we appreciate the use of their Ford Road location for this fundraiser,” he said event.
The Liberty Fest parade is just one of the activities that takes in the township this weekend. It starts at about 9 a.m. and runs from Lilley Road west to Canton Center Road. The road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8:30-11 a.m.
No advance tickets are required for the breakfast, according to Chew. The $5 suggested donation will buy an all-you-can eat pancake and sausage breakfast, complete with coffee or orange juice. The proceeds go to the many activities supported by the Lions Club, from Leader Dogs to the Blind to the eyeglass program to the Penrickton Center for the Blind and more.
“All donations are used to help the sight and hearing impaired,” he said. “There will also be a drop off box to donate eye glasses and hearing aids.”
The Liberty Fest begins at 1 p.m. on Thursday, with family activities and entertainment in Heritage Park. Hours of the festival are from 1-10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.
The event features a variety of activities for children, inflatables, a classic car show, live entertainment, a Lego exhibit and more. For more details and a complete schedule, visit www.canton-mi.org.
