Police nab suspects in tri-county crime spree
Canton police helped catch a pair of men suspected in a tri-county crime spree last week.
Police arrested Keith Eugene List, 25, and Joel Allen Boyd, 24, after they had illegally entered a Canton residence last week, according to Sgt. Mark Gajeski. Both suspects are Ypsilanti residents.
“It worked out well,” said Gajeski. “(The officers) did a good job on this.”
Gajeski said police believe they are responsible for a string of home invasions that have taken place in the northwest area of Canton Township since May. He said they are suspects in six or seven incidents in Canton, as well as home invasions in Washtenaw County and Monroe County, too.
It was a Washtenaw County detective that helped crack the case, he said. The detective tracked some of the jewelry pawned in earlier heists and developed a list of suspects. From there a surveillance team was put together to follow them. They tracked the pair to a home near Napier and Ford roads in Canton, said Gajeski.
“The surveillance team watched the two men approach the house and knock on the front door for several minutes,” he said. “When the officers lost sight of the men, they approached the house and witnessed the men inside the residence attempting to remove property.”
They were arrested without incident.
Both were charged with second degree home invasion, a 15-year felony, and as habitual offenders. They were arraigned on June 27 at the 35th District Court in Plymouth and are currently in the Wayne County Jail on $50,000 bond.
Their preliminary examination is set for Friday.
Gajeski said the interdepartmental cooperation was crucial to cracking the case.
“It was a solid team effort all around,” he said.
