The 2007 Circle of Art – 450 Little Pictures for a Big Cause
Saline, MI , May 9, 2007: Almost 300 local, regional and national artists have donated more than 450 small original works of art for the 3rd annual Circle of Art Benefit for Food Gatherers. This annual event has grown every year since its inception in 2005 and the auction on May 20th will be the biggest yet. The donated artwork will be sold with all proceeds benefiting Food Gatherers. The pieces includes oils, watercolors, drawings, photography, jewelry, textiles, sculpture and ceramics.
The little originals will number close to 500 by the time the Circle of Art Party and Auction is held at the Saline Picture Frame Company on Sunday May 20th from 12 to 5. “It is a fun show” says Mary Bowe of Saline Picture Frame Co.,who is currently hanging the art. “The small size of the art work makes them accessible and intimate plus the sheer volume of pieces makes for a fascinating display. This may be the largest concentration of small original art ever seen in the area” Participating , who include many well known area figures such as Chris Antieau-Roberts, Julie Fremuth, Ellen Moucoulis, Janet Kohler, Jill Stefani Waganer, are among the biggest supporters of the event not only as contributors but also as spirited bidders at the auction.
The first two Circle of Art events raised more than $25,000 to help Food Gatherers fight hunger in our communities. Food Gatherers, recently named the second most effective charity in the United States by the independent Charity Navigator organization, is able to leverage that money to provide an amazing amount of good. Eileen Spring, Food Gatherer’s Director, calculates that average artwork sold at Circle of Art has allowed Food Gatherers to feed one hungry child for a month. In the face of escalating fuel costs and increasing need community support of Food Gatherers is essential in helping them continue their food rescue and distribution mission.
The Circle of Art Benefit is a free event open to all and is a great opportunity to see some great small art, to meet artists and friends and to help Food Gatherers fight hunger where we live. The auction and party is held at the Saline Picture Frame Company, 7641 N. Ann Arbor St., Saline, MI 48176 on Sunday May 20th from 12 to 5. Refreshments will be served. For more information:
