Tuesday, March 6, 2007 | 10:51 PMBest in showThe Romulus Eagles are, hands down, the best basketball team in their district and could be the Cinderella team to watch in the state tournament. They proved so when they shoved Ypsilanti asided like a rag doll on Tuesday night for an 83-62 victory. Ten—count them if you’d like—different players scored in the routing. Guard Valdez Green led all scorers with 19, hitting five—again, count them if you want—triples. Five!!! Not bad for a sophomore, huh. Romulus looks like the high-flying Eagles of two years ago when they went to the state final. Can they do it again? If they continue to dominate like they have the last couple of weeks I wouldn’t put it past them. The trick will be not to turn into a pumkin before they find the glass slipper. They will have to get by rival Belleville on Thursday in the semifinals, first. Romulus and Belleville split the regular season series, 1-1. Romulus won last Tuesday but Belleville is a vastly improved team since then. Yes, a week can do wonders for high school teams. Both teams will have their work cut out for them. « Back to From The Cheap Seats |
