Sunday, March 11, 2007 | 1:16 PMCanton wins districtTo no surprise Canton won the district title—second straight—on Thursday night with a 66-54 victory over Novi. The Wildcats hung around but, in the end, were no match for the Chiefs. It wasn’t as exciting as the semifinal match-up with Northville on Wednesday. But, and ask anyone, that game was truly the district final. Canton has spread the ball around frequently and with great success this past week. Sharma led all scorers again with 22. Josh Butler added 12 and Steve Paye, nine. The Chiefs are even getting some help from some unsung benchers. Senior Caleb Larner stripped off the warm-up suit and provided a momentum-lifting nine points. Even senior guard Eric Zech found himself running the hardwood. He provided four points and some much-needed energy against the quick Wildcats. The Chiefs head to Troy High to tip off against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s—the same team that knocked them out of the regional tournament last year—at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. « Back to From The Cheap Seats |
