Big event

The joint Summerfest and JazzFest that took place last month required a lot of behind the scenes organization, and sponsors, planners and workers were honored for their contributions Monday night. The festival committee (above) received kudos from Mayor Hilliard Hampton. Mike Jones (above right), the owner of a pet food store on Michigan Avenue, was recognized for a $1,000 contribution to help fund the event, and the Rev. Joseph Stephens of New Birth Baptist Church, won the trophy during the Chili Cook-Off.

Ms. Parker:

Wow, I really wanted to go to the Summerfest this year, but I got sick that weekend. Some friends of mine told me how nice it was and there was no problems from nobody. Oh well, hopefully I get to go next year.
