Maybury Farm spring events planned

Again this year, area children will have the chance to search for Easter Eggs hidden at various locations at Maybury Farm.

The free event begins at 1 p.m. and is for children from 2 to 10 years old. Last year, according to Northville Community Foundation Executive Director Shari Peters, the children were able to visit with a newborn baby goat following the event.

“This is one of the most exciting, fun things we do at the farm,” Peters said. “The kids are really cute, and they get so excited looking for eggs.”

There is free parking at the farm, which is off Seven Mile Road. There is a specific farm entrance, separate from Maybury State Park that must be used for farm events.

Those who want to improve their health and feed the animals at Maybury Farm will be offered the unique opportunity on May 19.

The first ever Trot For Animals, a 5K walk/run is planned through the grounds at Maybury Farm. There is something planned for everyone, according to Peters, including the Bunny Walk for children and senior citizens up to the Trotter Trail and Rooster Run for more seasoned and experienced walkers and runners. Pre-registration is required for the event.

All proceeds from the event will be used to help purchase feed for the rapidly growing animal population at the farm. The foundation operates the working farm for the community and has been restoring the barns and outbuildings and replacing livestock and equipment after a devastating fire at the facility destroyed the barns and killed all but two of the animals.

Volunteers and contributions from throughout the community and state have made the restoration of the farm possible, Peters said. “Without the community, the volunteers, the people who support us by attending events and helping with our fundraisers, we simply couldn’t do this. The farm will open again for the season on March 19.

Usual hours are from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. but the farm is always closed on Mondays and holidays.
