The suspect is described as a white male, about 5-foot five to five-foot seven inches tall with light brown hair cut close, gray eyes and a thin build. The victim said the suspect had brown spots on his face, possibly moles.Northville Township police believe an attempted home invasion that took place on Friday is related to a robbery that took place earlier this year.
According to Det. Sgt. Matt Mayes from the Northville Township Police Department, the latest incident took place at about 7:24 p.m. at a home belonging to John Hamilton, who owns several adult night clubs in the Detroit metro area. His home was also the target of a robbery in March.
“He has two homes in the community,” Mayes said. “We think this is somewhat related (to the March robbery).”
Hamilton was not at home when the suspect knocked on the door to the other home on Friday night. An elderly woman was house sitting for him, however, and when she answered the door she saw an unknown suspect pointing a handgun at her, according to Mayes.
“She was smart in that she had the screen door locked,” Mayes said. “She slammed the door shut and ran to call 911.”
Police were quickly on the scene, but the suspect had already fled. A K-9 unit was brought in to track the suspect, with limited success. The dog followed the track to where it disappeared on a nearby street.
“Most likely, he had a car parked nearby,” Mayes said.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 5-foot 5 to 5-foot, 7 inches tall with light brown hair cut close, gray eyes and a thin build. The victim said the suspect had brown spots on his face, possibly moles, and wore a blue and gray plaid shirt.
“She gave us a pretty detailed description,” Mayes said.
Hamilton’s primary home was robbed at about 11:30 p.m. on March 25, 2006. The 64-year-old club owner was tied up and held at gunpoint as two suspects took a large sum of money from the home. Hamilton has since offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the men involved in that crime, which remains unsolved.
Mayes said he’s not sure if the description in the latest robbery matched that of one of the two suspects in the March robbery.
“They were wearing ski masks,” he said. “He didn’t get a good look at them, but we definitely think these are related. We feel this was a targeted incident.”
