Plakas, Barone will vie for 35th judicial seat
Voters will choose between attorneys Jim Plakas and Joe Barone in the November election to select the next 35th District Court judge.
Plakas received the most votes in the election with a total of 7,380 from voters in the Plymouth, Canton and Northville communities. Barone came in second with 4,937 while Snow accumulated 4, 689 votes.
Plakas is a Northville Township resident and currently the assistant prosecuting attorney in Westland. Barone, a Plymouth Township attorney, defeated Snow, also of Northville, by 250 votes.
Plymouth prosecuting attorney Cam Miller came in fourth with 4, 314 with attorneys Jim Malinowski and Arthur R. Butler running distant fifth and sixth with a total of 1,500 and 288 votes respectively.
Barone credits his volunteers for helping him advance to the General Election.
“Without them none of this is possible,” said Barone who credits his opponents for running strong races and is looking forward to the fall. “I hope I can repeat (the results) in the General Election,” he said. Attempts by The Journal to reach Plakas were unsuccessful by press time.
The three top vote getters also lead in campaign fund raising amounts. According to financial disclosure forms filed with the state less than 10 days prior to the election. Plakas, Barone and Snow spent spent more than $48,000 on the campaign with Barone and Snow exceeding $60,000 in campaign expenditures.
Despite losing the election, Miller said the experience of receiving support from more than 4,000 area voters is one he will never forget.
