Obituaries


BAWCUM, Mary Aletha, age 88, died October 30, 2007. She was born June 2, 1919. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Johnny R. Bawcum; three sisters, two brothers-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford V. Bawcum; children, Clifford E. Bawcum, Mary J. Shehane, Ronald M. Bawcum, Coy A. Bawcum, Barbara A. Thompson and Richard J. Bawcum. Services were held at Penn Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Willis officiating. Interment was at Parkview memorial Cemetery, Livonia, MI. Final arrangements were entrusted to Penn Funeral home, Inkster, MI.


BLACK, Debroah, Age 55 of Westland, died October 22, 2007. Wife of Robert, beloved mother of Mary (Scott) Ray and Robert Black, Jr. Loving daughter of John Winstead and Mary (the late James) McCann. Sister of Donna (Tony) Madrigal. Grandmother of Jacob Black and Tyler Allen. Services were held at the Uht Funeral Home, Westland with burial in Cadillac Memorial Gardens Cemetery West. BRADY, Mary Therese, age 77 of Louisville died October 29, 2007 at Meadowview Health & Rehabilitation Center, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was the former Mary T. Brown, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Milford N. Brown of Wayne, Michigan, a teach, artist and antique collector; former member of Queen’s Daughters; two-term regent of Abraham Hite Chapter, DAR; member of the U. of Michigan Club of Louisville, U-M Alumni Association and, with her husband, co-leader of a bible-study class at Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
Mary T. is survived by her loving husband, James J. Brady, II; daughters Kelly Dean (Rob), Erin Worsham (Curry) and Shannon Lutz (Stephan); sons James J. Brady, III (Amy), Pat and 11 grandchildren; sisters Margaret Dudar (John) and Anne Courtois (Don).
A 1951 graduate of Marygrove College, Detroit, Mary taught elementary school in Gardin City, MI, and then entered graduate school at the U. of Michigan where she met her future husband, Jim, a Korean War veteran. They married in June, 1955 at St Mary’s Student Chapel, Ann Arbor, MI as she received her M.A. in education and he graduated in journalism. She then taught a year in Ann Arbor area while he got his M.A. In June, 1956, they began his 34-year GE career with assignments in Ft. Wayne, IN; Schenectady, NY; and Louisville, where he retired in 1990. The Brady’s were longtime vacationers in the Petoskey-Harbor Springs area of northwestern Lower Michigan.
Her funeral Mass was held Friday, November 2, 2007 at Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8509 Westport Road, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

FRANCIS Harry C., age 87 of Dearborn, formerly of Wayne, died October 31, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Hallie, loving father of Harry III of West Bloomfield, Scott of Conn., and Charles (Angie) of Mexico, dearest grandfather of Nicole and Shannon and great grandfather of Kaitlyn, dear brother of Donna VanDerklip of Grand Rapids.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 10th at Noon, at the First Congregational Church in Wayne. Arrangements by Harry J. Will Funeral Home, Wayne.


KANOUSE, James R., Age 51 of Monroe, died October 20, 2007. Beloved father of Derek Kanouse and Ryan Kanouse. Dear father of Donald (Karen), Terry (Pauline) and Sean (Cheryl). Services were held at the Uht Funeral Home, Westland with Rev. Roy Forsyth officiating. Cremation rites were accorded with burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. KENNEDY, Linda Marie, age 55, died October 28, 2007. She was born November 10, 1951. Linda’s memory shall forever be cherished by her son Lionel Alexander Kennedy II; her mother and father, George and Dorretta Martin; sister, Angela (Donnie) McCullers; grandchildren, Jasymn, Devin, Dominic and Lonneta; her mother and father-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law; a very special niece and nephew, Angelique and Donte’, and a host of other family and friends. Services were held at Penn Funeral Home with Pastor Norman Lyons officiating. Interment was at United Memorial Gardens, Plymouth, MI. Final arrangements were entrusted to Penn Funeral Home, Inkster, MI.


LADA, Gabriel “Gubby”, Age 83 of Westland, died October 23, 2007. Beloved husband of Elizabeth. Dear father of Lorraine (Jim) Jackson, Lynne (John) Moomaw, Lance (Sue) and Layne (Roxann). Grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of 14. Brother of the late Steven, Joseph, Louis, Esther Kertesz, Frank and Paul. Also preceded by one grandchild. Family received friends at the Uht Funeral Home, Westland, where a Wayne Lodge #112 F. & A.M. service was also held. The funeral service was held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Westland. Cremation rites were accorded and inurnment will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens Cemetery West. Memorials to the church would be appreciated. NELSON, Earnest, age 60, died October 13, 2007. He was born January 16, 1947. He leaves to cherish his memory, his life long companion and mother of his children, Linda Bell; his children and grandchildren, Earnest Goodwin(granddaughters, Aiyonna and Whysper Goodwin), Pia Bell (grandson, Thomas Johnson IV), Akeera Nelson and Rena Nelson; two step-sons, Curtis Goodwin (grandson, Curtis Goodwin Jr.) and Bronson Bell (granddaughter, Ashley Franklin and grandson, Deonte Bell), who he had a hand in raising and loved as his very own; the mother of his first born, Phyllis Goodwin; his three brothers Muhammad Abdul Mumeen (Bobby), Maurice Nelson (Regina) and Murray Nelson; six sisters, Bessie McCray, Lessie Pittman (Rufus), Virginia Nelson, Earnestine Mingo (Bo’s twin), Geraldine Williams and Jo-Ann Daniels (Donald); one aunt, Ethel Bell Wilson; special friends, Hugh Williams, Greg Stewart and Clarence Frederick (Tubby), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all cherish his memory. Services were held at Greater Works Deliverance Ministries with Prophetess Teresa A Moton officiating. Interment was at Sunset Hills, Ypsilanti, MI. Final arrangements were entrusted to Penn Funeral Home, Inkster, MI.


PENN, Josephine Allegro, age 67, died October 24, 2007. She was born July 29, 1940. She leaves to keep her memory alive, Malba Wynn, her only child; son-in-law David; granddaughters, Madisen and Spirit Wynn; mother Thelma Cecil; cousins, Geraldine Watson (Robert), Wilma jean Ruffin (Joel), Carolyn Cooper (Kenneth), William Penn III (Rhonda), Robert Penn, Ronald Penn and Henry Heath and numerous other family members and friends. Services were held at Greater Grace Temple, Detroit, MI with Bishop Charles Ellis officiating. Interment was at Gethsemane Cemetery, Detroit, MI. Final arrangements were entrusted to Penn Funeral Home, Inkster, MI.


PORTER, Frank Sr., age 76, died October 14, 2007. Frank leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Dorothy and children Sylvia (Horace) Jackson and Frank, Jr.; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly; two sisters, Lucile (Marvin) Stubbs and Lorine Holmes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services were held at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist church with Rev. Dr. John E. Duckworth officiating. Interment was at Knollwood Cemetery, Canton, MI. Final arrangements were entrusted to Penn Funeral Home, Inkster, MI.


STUBBS, Joe Eddie, Sr., age 65, died October 17, 2007. He was born September 6, 1942. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Joe Eddie Stubbs Jr., and Saundria Monet Stubbs; one stepdaughter, Kimberly Morrison (Brandon Sr.); grandchildren, Eddie M. Stubbs, Christopher D. Malone, Jasmine Boyd, Indya Willingham and Brandon Morrison Jr.; brothers, George (Naomi), Roosevelt (Shirley), Alchristopher and Daryl (Dorothy); sisters, Pearl Dinwieddie, Beatrice Stubbs, Ethel White (Willie) and Wynell Chatmon; aunts, Betty Pickens and Sara Williams of Memphis, TN and Mozella Booker of Florissant, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend Sandra Poinsetta. Services were held at Amity Baptist Church, Inkster, MI with Rev. Anthony Eaddy officiating. Interment was at United memorial Gardens, Plymouth, MI. Final arrangements were entrusted to Penn Funeral Home, Inkster, MI.
