Al Ostrowski is not fulfilling many of his duties as a Van Buren Township Trustee and is getting a pass from Supervisor White in this matter. Each VBT Trustee is assigned to be the Board Representative to various Committees, Commissions and Community Organizations, this is an important duty of each Board Member. Each Board Rep works on issues, plans for future needs and acts as a conduit to the Board of Trustees.
Ostrowski is assigned as the VBT Rep to the Chamber Of Commerce and an alternate to the Tri Community Museum Board. How many meetings of these organizations do you think he attended as Board Rep? Not one! He has not attended any meetings in his (14) Months in office.
Ostrowski has also been known to get up and leave Van Buren Township Board Meetings-especially when the focus is upon him. But you will note that when the Board Meetings conclude Ostrowski can be found meeting with POWW Members in the parking lot or visiting with White in his office. Certainly illness or restroom breaks are certainly understandable reasons for excusing yourself, however I do not feel it is acceptable for him to leave the meeting all together because he does not want to face tough questions from the public.
Ostrowski’s personal cell phone bill is also reimbursed by the residents, I do not see a need for us to do this as he can be contacted utilizing his residential phone number or email. None of the other (3) Trustees request reimbursement by the residents.
Ostrowski did cast the deciding vote to Fire Public Safety Director Champagne. This vote has led to the present turmoil we are experiencing in the Township. Consistent with his lack of performance as a Trustee, Ostrowski admitted that he was not interested in the facts of this matter but based his vote solely on a “Campaign Promise” he had made to White.
As a Trustee, Ostrowski has failed to understand that he should be much more than a rubber stamp for the Supervisor. Because of this, Ostrowski deserves to be recalled by the voters of Van Buren Township along with the others involved in this embarrassment to our community.
