Lions thank Belleville community

To the editor;

Members of the Canton Lions Club would like to thank the Belleville community for their contributions to the Lions. White Cane Week, April 24 through May 2 was a complete success as we found the citizens of Belleville very giving and understanding.

The funds you donated will help support your community such as eyeglasses for school children, assisting the blind and hearing impaired. We also support the Leader School for the Blind, Pinrickton Center for multiple handicapped children in Taylor, and youth programs through the schools.

Funds are needed to support the many needs throughout the community of Belleville. Money raised during White Cane Week is but one of the events the club has to raise funds to meet the many needs of our community. We get many requests for funds from various organizations such as Michigan Eye Bank to Detroit Radio Information Service who read to the blind over a special frequency on the radio. The Canton Lions are community based and place strong emphases on assisting the local community.

The Canton Lions Club has 49 members and meets on fourth Monday of the month at 7p.m. The meeting is at the Cherry Hill School House located at Cherry Hill and Ridge Road. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. Citizen blasts Wayne mayor

To the editor;

I certainly hope that Mayor Haidous decides to end his career as mayor of the City of Wayne.

I am disappointed by what I see as his lackluster performance in general.

I am shocked, however, by his mishandling of our civic affairs as the business downturn rushed upon us and threatened to swallow us all whole.

For example – I recall with horror that when the Ford corporation was showing financial distress that the response for dealing with the possibility of losing Ford’s Wayne plants was to consider whether or not the Ford property should be used as a public park.

I heard that when Mayor Haidous became aware of the money that Canton got from the stimulus package that he expressed dismay that Canton got so much and Wayne got so little.

The reason for that is because Canton has clerks trained to submit requests for funding from the county, state and federal governments through grants.

Wayne has trained one of its clerks to be prepared to kidnap your dog if your dog’s tags are not renewed on time.

It’s time for Wayne to get effective government.

In my opinion the distressing inaction of Mayor Haidous cannot be ignored.

As a matter of honor Mayor Haidous could step aside but being a professional politician and real jobs being scarce he may need a little convincing at the voting booth.

Or are you prepared to keep paying to keep Mayor Haidous at the expense of your own livelihood?
