Organizers prepare for ice festival
The colder it gets, the happier Sam Walton is.
Walton, owner of Signature Professional Group, is organizing the annual Plymouth Ice Sculpture Festival this year, and is looking forward to a “cool” event.
“I think it’s going to be just what the community needs-the holidays will be over and it will be time to get out and have some fun,” he said.
The festival was originally conceived to bring customer traffic into the downtown during the January lull, but has grown over the years into a real family tradition for many.
Walton said this year the events would stick with the traditions the community has come to look forward to, but add some new entertainment and attractions that will keep people coming back.
“The committee members are looking at several options-many of them unique and talking to several sponsors,” Walton said. “We’re going to have a warming tent with, we hope, entertainment this year and we are getting many of the local businesses involved.”
The festival is planned for Jan. 22. 23 and 24 throughout the downtown and into Old Village. The lighted professional and student ice sculptures will fill Kellogg Park and downtown area and there will be entertainment at various times throughout the three-day event, Walton said.
