Kevin Khashan from Sean O'Callaghan's, lThey called it the Plymouth Pub & Grub Tax Relief Crawl, and more than 1,000 people showed up to soften the pain of tax day April 15.
The owners of five local pubs, E.G. Nick’s, 1999, Ironwood Grill, Penn Bar and Grill and Sean O’Callaghan’s joined forces to provide a stress relieving evening for those who paid one price to visit each establishment and enjoy drinks and appetizers. They also offered 10 door prizes, and the top winner went home with a flat screen TV.
“It was really a success,” said Frank Agostini of E.G. Nick’s. “We couldn’t have had better weather or a better group of people. I think we all were pretty busy but we also had a great time.”
The other big winner was the Plymouth Police Department which
the bar owners surprised with a $2,000 contribution toward a wellness center the department is trying to fund in the police station basement.
“Hey, we all know that we can’t be successful unless these guys are successful. We depend on them,” Agostini said. “We really appreciate everything they do.”
He added that the budget cuts in the city have placed the responsibility for the wellness center on the officers themselves.
The success of the event has the business owners planning a repeat, with a slightly different theme, in August and again in October.
Both will be benefits for the police department, Agostini said.
