Timeline extended on Bathey land sale
The holidays may be over, but the spirit of giving still exists in the City of Plymouth. City officials gave developers another 60 days to investigate an old manufacturing site.
During their meeting on Tuesday, Plymouth commissioners agreed to allow Connektiv Companies additional time to conduct their due diligence inspection on the Bathey Manufacturing Plant off Mill Street, between Ann Arbor Trail and Main Street.
During the summer, Connektiv signed a purchase and sale agreement with the city to turn the property into a 30,000 square feet commercial business site and to construct 180 residential units on the 11-acre site.
Connektiv representatives said more time is needed to coordinate the project with Wayne County officials who are integrating a new environmental safety incentive program to help fund the project.
“We want this project done as soon as possible,” said Jason Braidwood of Connektiv. Braidwood originally asked for a 90-day extension from the inspection, but the commission was more comfortable with granting a 2-month grace period.
“We’ll get done with what the commission needs within 60 days,” said Braidwood.
The property has been vacant since the city foreclosed on the land in 2003. At the time, the previous owner had not paid taxes for more than 20 years and had amassed a delinquent tax bill of more than $3 million.
Plymouth Mayor Dan Dwyer said the short extension still keeps enough pressure on the developers to keep momentum going on the project while giving them enough time to prepare for inspection.
“The city is ready to sell the property and get rid of it once and for all,” Dwyer said.
