Text of parent letter regarding arrested Plymouth-Canton teacher

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools mailed this letter Friday to parents of 135 students taught by English teacher Orin Kennedy at Plymouth High School:

February 23, 2007

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This letter is written to inform you that there will be a long-term substitute teacher in one of your child’s classes starting Monday, Feb. 26. As you may have heard, Mr. Orin Kennedy was arrested over winter break for inappropriate behavior on the Internet. In Mr. Kennedy’s absence, a substitute teacher will provide the instruction necessary to help all of the students meet the objectives of the course.

Mr. Kennedy has been placed on administrative leave and cannot return to any of our schools until further notice. There also is a court order that forbids his use of a computer or the Internet.

We want to assure you that this incident did not occur on school property. We are currently performing an internal investigation and will take appropriate steps once it has been completed. If you have any questions or concerns about this situation, please contact your building principal or me at (734) 416-2705.

Sincerely,

Michael Bender
Director of Secondary Education
