Reaume advances to race in November
Plymouth Township Republicans have chosen incumbent Township Supervisor Richard Reaume as their nominee to face Democratic challenger Mike Watts and Independent candidate Donald Schnettler in the November 4 General Election.
“I worked hard the last four years to keep the community growing. I want to thank my friends and supporters who worked diligently,” said Reaume from a victory party at the Box Bar in downtown Plymouth.
Reaume secured 2,150 votes or 55 percent of the Republican vote while his closet competitor, Plymouth-Canton School Board Trustee Dianne Gonzalez received 23 percent or 925 votes.
Retiring Plymouth Township Clerk Marilyn Massengill received 593 votes for supervisor and former township Trustee KC Mueller received 278 votes. More than 3,950 Republicans participated in the primary election.
“It’s nice to have the voters come out and continue the progress of the township.” Reaume added.
In the Democratic Primary, Watts received 1,173 votes from registered voters in the township. While Republican voters in the municipality more than doubled Democrats, Watts said he is excited to push the election season past the primary election.
“I’m just happy to be part of the process and voters will have a choice after the primary,” said Watts, who added that he has respect for both of his opponents and expects a contested yet clean campaign.
“I’m looking forward to a good campaign against my competition. And that’s what makes the process worthwhile,” he said.
