Meet the candidates
The Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a meet and mingle with the candidates event from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Romulus Athletic Center.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
This is a casual event and candidates will be available to answer questions on an informal basis.

Census speaker slated
Linda Clark, a partnership specialist with the U.s. Census Bureau will be the speaker at the meeting of the Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce at noon Oct. 16.
The event will take place at the Best Western Hotel, 9191 Wickham road. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m.. Cost is $15 for members and $18 for non-members.

Church hosts seminar
A free, grief-recovery seminar and support group will begin meeting at Romulus Wesleyan Church in Romulus at 9 a.m. every Sunday.
The group will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
GriefShare features a nationally recognized expert on grief and recovery topics. The 13 video sessions include a wide range of grief related topics.
Visitors can attend any or all of the sessions.

Sweetest Day celebrated
The Romulus Fire Department Firefighters’ Ball benefiting the Romulus Goodfellows will be a Sweetest Day Dinner Dance from 7 until 11:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Romulus Progressive Hall.
Admisison is $25 per person or $45 per couple. The hall is located at 11580 Ozga in Romulus.

Nominations are sought
The Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 25th Person of the Year.
A biographical sketch of the nominee should be included, along with reasons the candidate is nominated.
The deadline to receive nominations is Dec. 18. Forms are available at the chamber office, 11189 Shook road, Suite 200 and on the chamber website, info@romuluschamber.com.

Fall story time begins
Storytime at the Romulus Public Library will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays until Oct. 27. The Wednesday morning storytime will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue weekly until Oct. 28.
Storytime is open to all children between the ages of 3 and 5. There is no fee, but advance registration is required on a first-come, first served basis.

Spooktacular parties planned
Romulus children are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes for the Therapeutic Recreation Spooktacular Party from 10 a.m. until noon Oct. 24 in Historic Park.
The event is open to the public and there is a $5 admission fee for Wayne County residents and a $6 fee for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.
There will be prizes for the best costumes, games, bouncies and a parade. Each child will receive a candy bag and make a craft to take home and be served a snack. This is an outdoor event.
There will be another party at the park from 1 until 3 the same day, also with prizes, games and candy.

Cedar Point trip set
The Romulus Recreation Department is sponsoring a Halloween trip to Cedar Point on Oct. 24.
The cost is $65 and those 14 and older must have a signed parental permission slip. Children 14 and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
A bus will leave the recreation department promptly at 2 p.m. and will return to Romulus at about 2 a.m.

Pee-Wee Basketball set
Romulus Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a K-2 Co-Ed Pee Wee Basketball league at Halecreek Elementary School.
Practices will take place Monday and Wednesday evenings and games are on Friday evenings.
The league will continue from Oct. 26 until Dec. 18. Fees are $50 for one person and $90 for two immediate family members. Non resident fees are $75 for one person and $140 for two family members. The fee includes a reversible jersey that the child can keep.

Parent workshop planned
Save Our Black Boys, a workshop for parents is planned for 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Romulus.
Organizers will offer solutions through a national speaker and educator.

Teachers’ class scheduled
A day-long professional development seminar for teachers will take place beginning at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 19.
Titled School Failure and the African-American Boy—Causes and Cures, the session will provided strategies for schools success and explore the cultural, gender, historical and racial factors impacting the achievement gap for black males.
A buffet breakfast is included.

Christmas Carol planned
Henry Ford Community College Theater for Young Audiences Program will present A Christmas Carol for two weeks of school matinees.
The play has been adapted for grades K-8 and the 80 minute performance includes carols of the season.
Performances are at 10 a.m. Mondays through Fridays Nov. 16-20 and Nov. 30-Dec. 4.
Students admission is $3, teachers and chaperones are free.
All performances take place at the Henry Ford Community College Campus, 5101 Evergreen in the Adray Auditorium.
