Students at Barth Elementary met members of the armed services at an assembly on Veteran's Day.

During an assembly Nov. 11, Barth Elementary School students honored veterans who served or are still serving in the Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, Army, or other military.

Many family members and friends of Barth students attended the assembly, and were recognized by Mr. Smith, a teacher at Barth and also a Marine veteran. Mr. Smith’s fifth grade students began the ceremony with the posting of colors. During the assembly students from the fifth and sixth grades read poems and acted out skits to honor the veterans. The veterans were really appreciative of the hard work dedicated to the assembly, and the children learned what the veterans have done for their country and how many risks they took fighting.

Following the assembly, lunch was provided for the veterans and their guests in the Barth media center where kindergarten students from Mrs. Brim’s class gave each veteran a patriotic placemat they could take with them.
