Pumpkin Festival Parade will continue

Rumors of their demise have been, to paraphrase greatly exaggerated.

In fact, members of the Romulus Rotary Club are already at work planning the 13th Annual Romulus Parade of Lights.

According to Stephen A. Weatherholt, a club member, the annual event will take place the evening of Friday, Sept. 17, as it has for more than a decade.

“The Romulus Rotary Club is dedicated to the tradition of the Parade of Lights and will continue to offer it on the third Friday in September,” Weatherholt said in a prepared statement.

Every year, the lighted floats fill downtown Romulus streets and entries have included bicycles, cement trucks and even a school bus covered with lights, a spokesperson said.
Weatherholt’s prepared statement disputed rumors that the parade and the Romulus Pumpkin Festival may not take place this year.

While he did not directly address that issue, Weatherholt was adamant that the parade would continue.

According to the official Romulus Pumpkin Festival website, the dates for the event are Sept. 17, 18, 19 this year. The Pumpkin Festival Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month in the city council chambers.

Calls to the Pumpkin Festival hotline were not returned by press time.
