Wayne-Westland events


Child ID kits offered
The Michigan Child ID Program will offer a free child identification pack that includes everything needed for an amber alert system from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. March 13 at the Salvation Army building in Westland.
Advance registration is requested and can be made by phoning (734) 722-3660.
The Salvation Army building is located at 2300 Venoy Road.

World’s Largest Euchre Tournament planned
Players are being sought for the World’s Largest Euchre Tournament, planned by members of the Wayne Rotary Club.
Organizers hope to register 2,000 players for the event which will feature cash prizes to the top 20 and bottom five players. Registration is $25 at the door or $20 for those who pre-register at www.thebiggame.com.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. April 24 and play will begin at 3 p.m. The tournament will take place at Burton Manor, 2777 Schoolcraft Road in Livonia. All proceeds benefit the Rotary Foundation.

Marshmallow Drop slated
The annual Marshmallow Drop is planned for 10 a.m. April 2 at Attwood Park.
The first drop, for toddlers and those up to age 4, will take place at 10 a.m., the next drop is for children 5-7 and the third drop is for children 8-10.
The event is free.

Bunny breakfast served
Breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be served from 10:45 a.m. until noon April 2 at the Wayne Community Center.
Tickets are $4 for residents and $5 for non-residents. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice, a craft project and clown entertainment. Photos with the Easter Bunny are available for $2. Children 2 and younger are admitted free.
Admission is limited to the first 200.

Maple syrup tours set
Maybury Farm will offer Maple Syrup tours which include a hayride to the maple tree grove, the tapping of the trees and processing of the sap. Visitors will see how maple syrup is made and take part in the process.
Tours will begin at noon and leave on the hour until 3 p.m. Warm clothes and boots are suggested. The cost for the tour is $5 per person, those 2 and younger are admitted free. The weekend only tours will take place March 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 and April 10, 11, 17 and 18.
Maybury Farm is located at 50165 Eight Mile Road, about 1 ¼ mile west of Beck Road. Do not enter the state park but continue west and enter at the Maybury Farm sign.

Dance lessons offered
The Wayne Senior Activity Center is offering line dancing classes for seniors, 50 and older, from 1-2:30 p.m. every Friday.
The lessons are slow and easy to lean from 1-1:30 and progress in difficulty as the class continues.
The cost is $1 per half hour and drop-ins are welcome.

Euchre games on hand
Players are sought for the euchre games that take place every Tuesday, from 1:45 until 4 p.m., at the Wayne Senior Activity Center.
The center is located at 35000 Sims Ave. in Wayne.

Chair exercises offered
Sit and Be Fit, a chair exercise class, will be offered from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Mondays at the Wayne Senior Activity Center.
The class will combine resistance and stretching activities to increase strength, bone density and energy. The class is designed to improve balance, coordination, mental alertness, muscle flexibility and joint range of motion.

Foundation hosts party
The Westland Community Foundation will host a Post St. Paddy’s Day Party beginning at 4 p.m. on March 24 with a charity poker tournament. Hors D’oeuvres, beer and wine will be served beginning at 7 p.m. and entertainment and dining will begin at 8 p.m. at Marvaso’s Italian Grill on Wayne Road in Westland.
Tickets are $40 per person and the buy in for the charity poker tournament is a separate buy in.

Quilting classes offered
Plymouth Westland Grange 389 members offer quilting classes from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Friendship Center on Newburgh Road.
Sharon Strebbing will teach both beginning and advanced quilting.
Cost for the classes is $5 but there is no fee for those doing social quilting.

Library aides job seekers
Librarians at the William P. Faust Public Library are hosting several job seekers labs during which they will help unemployed residents create a resume in Microsoft Work, file for unemployment with the state.

Fibromyalgia group meets
The Metro Fibromyalgia and CFS support group meets from 1-3 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of every month at the Merriman Baptist Church, south of Ford Road.
The group sponsors speakers and a lending library. There is no fee to attend although donations are accepted.
