Maria CouchDreaming of Broadway? Think you can be the next cast member of GLEE?
If so, the professionals at 8th Wonder may be able to help with audition skills, musical theater technique or even head shots.
The 8th Wonder Musical Theatre Intensive Workshop is planned for July 19-30 at the Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton Township. Admission to the workshop is, however, by audition only and only for those 15-22 years of age.
Auditions will be by open call from 6 until 10 p.m. June 14 and 15 at the Village Theater, 50400 Cherry Hill Road. Callbacks are scheduled from 6 until 9 p.m. June 16.
Actors auditioning may be asked to stay for a dance call. All participants should prepare two 16-bar selections which should be contemporary and musical theater or pop. Performers could be asked for both a ballad and an up-tempo piece and should have both selections prepared. No a capella or karaoke auditions will be permitted.
Those who are accepted will participate in the two-week intensive course which includes musical theater auditions, performance, book-building and one-on-one vocal coaching. Upon completion, all participants will be cast in the musical Phantom and will perform along Broadway singer and actor Maria Couch, other area professional actors and college students during performances Aug. 6-15.
They will also be presented with a professional headshot, an industry formatted resume and an audition book upon completion of the workshop.
The registration fee for the workshop is $700 per person, but scholarships are available.
The 8th Wonder production of Phantom by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit will be operetta-like in style.
8th Wonder is composed of theater professionals with extensive experience, including Broadway veterans and faculty in the theater department of Eastern Michigan University.
