Elections are right around the corner

I’m getting ready to start some specific campaign coverage in communities where there will be primary elections and plenty of candidates to talk to.
The senate seats where term-limited incumbents leave a wide open field are, understandably, the most crowded. With the departure of State Rep. Marc Corriveau (D-Northville) from the field seeking the 7th Senate District being vacated by Bruce Patterson (R-Canton), that election is anybody’s guess.
In the 8th District, which serves Romulus and Wayne, there are two Republicans and three Democrats seeking to replace Ray Basham, who is term-limited. That might be an interesting race; I’m not sure how strong the Democratic hold on that district is. Might this be a place where the Republican Party tries to channel money?
I’m also curious to see what role social media plays in the election this year.
In the meantime, anyone who wants to check up on some of the candidates can visit the state site that lists them. Of particular interest to me was that it included links to the web sites those candidates have set up. A political junkie like me might be tempted to spend a bit too much time there.
