Subdivisions vs. neighborhoods

Lest anyone glance at the Northville Public School website and think the proposed elementary school boundary changes have already been decided, that’s not the case.
At the school board meeting at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night, the board will discuss and vote on the criteria for the changes, not the changes themselves.
The criteria is essentially what they want to accomplish through the boundary changes: keeping class sizes down, keeping families in school together and coming up with a plan that will last as long as possible.
One interesting concept Board President Ken Roth brought up at a previous meeting was the idea of keeping subdivisons vs. neighborhoods together. It seems the time where kids knew and played with everyone in their sub has sadly passed. Nowadays our world is shrinking a bit; we know the people on our own block, if that.
The district, by the way, is hosting several boundary change forums. There are two at Ridge Wood Elementary on Friday: from 9:15-10 a.m. and at 10:15-11 a.m.
There are two at Thornton Creek Elementary on March 19: one from 6-6:45 p.m. and one from 7-7:45 p.m.
The board won’t make the decision until March 27, at the earliest.
