Government? Acting quickly?

Here’s something people should know.
Yesterday I went to an 8:30 a.m. meeting at the Wayne Chamber of Commerce, where business owners were going to talk strategy about the Michigan Avenue Reconstruction project and figure out how to persevere through what’s going to be a difficult year for them.
Nancy Pride, a resident, nearly derailed it, of course, spouting her usual negativity. But the business owners that were there were still able to voice their concerns and ask for some help from the city.
One of the things they wanted to know about is if the city would be willing to relax the sign ordinance to allow them more exposure while the main thoroughfare through downtown is ripped to shreds and replaced.
There seemed to be a bit of skepticism on the part of City Manager John Zech and Community Development director Peter McInerney.
Later that day though—about three hours later, to be exact—I ran into them at another meeting. McInerney and City Attorney Dick Clark had already scribbled down some preliminary concepts on that in hopes of getting it on the agenda for Tuesday.
If I didn’t see it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it. For all the times I’m complaining about the city not acting fast enough, it looks like they’re getting the right pace on this one.
