The ripple effect

For as long as I’ve covered Northville Township, the board has generally gotten along.
They’ve had their share of disagreements, sure, but those have never cast a shadow that lasted longer than a single township trustee meeting.
I wonder if that’s about to change.
This ongoing issue with whether or not to open Thayer’s Corner Park has stuck around longer than a nasty weed. It doesn’t look like it’s going to go away soon, either.
It’s a silly thing to cause a proverbial line in the sand, too.
Refusing the grant looks like a sensible thing to do to me. They’ve got enough going on in terms of park development, they’ve got their neighbors in the City of Northville to think about (parks and recreation is still a shared service, after all) and, according to the parks and recreation master plan that everyone agreed to, they’ve already earmarked the money elsewhere.
Who knows, though. Maybe this rift won’t last long.
When the Friends of Thayer’s Corner were told they needed a more detailed plan, they said they didn’t think more work on it would be fruitful right now. I can’t speak for them, of course, but when I’m passionate about something, I don’t give up that easily.
