Not quite ‘wreckreation’

There are a couple of words you could use to describe the first meeting of the new Northville Parks and Recreation Commission.
Uncontroversial is one.
Boring, another.
Heck, maybe you could even through in ‘awkward.’
The new group got things going Wednesday night. Township Supervisor Mark Abbo, the new chair, had some decent ideas on getting two committees together to look at programming and development, but I suspect there may be some growing pains as these committees are put together and try to identify their roles in the new order.
In the end, it will probably work out because the people that were essentially kicked off the parks and recreation commission—and that includes everyone that served, other than school board liaison Ken Roth—remain passionate about the issues. A few of them were there and indicated their willingness to help out.
Still, it’ll be an awkward transition—and a lengthy one, since the commission now only meets once every other month. I can only hope that it won’t diminish the momentum in an otherwise progressive department.
