I think the Michigan Liquor Control Commission should have a tennis ball as its official logo.
The commission ruled recently that the liquor license for Club Xtreme here in Wayne would not be reviewed in May. Rather, they ruled that it would not be renewed unless the Wayne City Council approved it.
Well, that’s not going to happen, since the council has already met twice on the issue. They’re the ones that came up with a resolution in opposition to it in the first place.
I don’t really have a problem with that—the club has been a source of contention and concern to officials and residents alike. Those that compare it with the other bars in town seem to have lost sight of the fact that it has received numerous LCC violations, along with several temporary liquor license suspensions.
The Blue Martini, in Bloomfield Hills, was essentially shut down after three violations.
I just wish someone would take responsibility. The city council says the state makes all the decisions. The state turns around and says they have to follow the recommendations of the locals.
Maybe, since this thing is likely headed to court, both sides wanted to stay out of the spotlight. I suppose that’s just a consequence of our ‘sue-first’ society.
