Now is better than later

At first, officials in the City of Wayne didn’t want the railroad crossing on Glenwood Road fixed this year.
They decided last week that they should go ahead and have it done—despite the difficulties it will mean for motorists and residents already impacted by the Michigan Avenue reconstruction project.
It makes sense, too.
You’ve got to remember that you’re dealing with a railroad company, the most slow-moving bureaucracy in the free world. If you mess with their schedule—and you’ll never be able to speed it up—then God only knows when they’ll get back to you.
It’s kind of like the busy restaurant syndrome. If you sit down at a crowded restaurant with an overly busy server and you’re not ready to order when he or she is ready to take your order, you never know when your window is going to open up again.
You could be hungry for a long, long time.
We all just need to grit our teeth and put up with this next disruption—a week-long closure of Glenwood that’s supposed to start on July 23—and hope this is one thing the railroad can accomplish quickly.
