Both sides of the glass

You can get a pretty good view of the construction of the new town square in Northville from the Great Harvest Bread Company.
Directly across Main Street from the site, you could probably inhale the dust if you wanted to sit outside. Construction started there last week; already most of the brick pavers are gone. It’s a pretty good snapshot of things to come in the city.
If you look into the Great Harvest Bread Company, you can get a pretty good snapshot of why the project will be successful, too. Business owners like Dave Cole, who owns the shop, are committed to working with the crews to get everything done on time—and make sure everyone is on the same page.
Cole is hosting construction meetings at 8 a.m. every Tuesday morning. John Hazinski, the construction manager for the project, will give updates about what happened in the past week and what’s expected to happen in the coming week. Combined with an email listserve sent out every Friday by the DDA, these meetings will help keep everyone informed about what’s going on, and when.
I like the idea, the near constant reminder to merchants and residents. That way nothing has a chance to get out of hand, and the excitement for the project will continue to build.
It might be a small project for the likes of McCarthy & Smith, but it’s a big step for Northville.
