Shapes of things to come

Well, the Michigan Avenue reconstruction project is starting to take shape.
Work on the north side of the street is far enough advanced to give a glimpse of what the project will look like when it’s complete. The parking bump outs have been identified, some driveways poured in—the right way this time, too—and workers have sculpted out the places where trees and brick pavers will be put in along the sidewalk. The foundations for the decorative streetlights have been installed, too.
Overall, it looks pretty good.
The exception is further west toward the railroad viaduct, where there is concrete from the north tip of the sidewalk right down to the roadway. It’s not quite a concrete jungle, but it’ll look like a concrete stream bed when it’s all said and done. I’m not too fond of that plan.
Work will continue on Wayne Road for the next week or so, and that’s the last bit that needs to be done before they switch over to do the remaining lanes. I hope that gets done quickly; it’s even more irritating to try to get around town with Wayne half-closed….
