Plymouth Township was recently named among the top places to live by Money Magazine.
It beat out many so-called upscale Detroit suburbs and all of its neighbors.
Well, that just goes to show that they don’t know what they’re talking about.
It’s not that Plymouth Township is a bad place to live; it’s nice enough, if lacking a little bit in character. My wife’s grandmother calls it home, as do many other happy people.
I just laugh when I read that one of the strengths of the community is access to parks and recreational amenities. Plymouth Township doesn’t even have a parks and recreation department.
I’d be curious to see what elevated Plymouth Township above, say, Canton Township—which boasts more parkland, a regional shopping attraction like IKEA and a community center that’s among the best in the state in Summit of the Park. Or from Northville Township, which boasts its own golf courses, plenty of parks, as well as the shared services offered through its parks and recreation program.
And then there’s my hometown of Wayne, which arguably has more parks and recreation facilities—including its own community center and separate senior activity center—than all of them…
