A ‘chili’ return

So the phone rings today, and it’s an old friend.
“What do I have to do to get you to write a story about the Wheelfest?” she asks.
“Um, call me,” I said. “What’s going on?”
The Wayne Rotary is bringing a chili cook-off back to the city. They wanted to do it as a standalone event, but decided to put it on on Wheelfest Saturday (Aug. 25), instead.
Sounds like a neat idea. There used to be a big chili cook-off in town but it moved to Plymouth. After a brief hiatus out in the boondocks of Chelsea, it’s since moved back to the City of Homes.
I’ll write more about the cook-off (and the Wheelfest) next week. In the meantime, if you have a killer chili recipe and want to take part, you can pick up a registration form at the Wayne Community Center on Howe and Annapolis or at the Wayne Chamber of Commerce office on Michigan Avenue, east of Wayne Road.
For another sneak peak at the upcoming festival, visit The Acorn Shop on Wayne Road, north of Sims Avenue. Kim Loveless has Wheelfest T-shirts for sale there, as well as the buttons that double as a fundraiser and admission to the Wheelfest entertainment area. Very groovy.
