The Idea People

It’s hard to believe that August is almost here—and so is the primary election.
Residents that have primary elections for local races—basically, those in portions of Inkster and all of Westland—might need to be reminded to go to the polls on Aug. 7.
There may be a temptation to wait until November, but I think primaries are important because they can forecast the bigger election and, if you don’t vote for your candidate now there’s no guarantee that he or she will be around in November.
We’ve talked to virtually all of the candidates now, and I’ve been generally impressed with most of them.
Some of them make me chuckle—if I hear ‘I’m not in this because I’m a politician’ one more time, I’m not sure what I’m going to do.
Others make me optimistic.
I think it’s time to talk about changing the district system in the City of Inkster, too. This mind-boggling tradition is a bit outdated and it’s keeping some good people from serving on the council.
We’ll have our endorsements for the primary in the Eagle editions this Thursday.
