An easy fact to find

Well, I just got back from Houghton Lake and boy are my arms tired.
Who knew doing nothing could be so taxing? My fingers feel like sticks, so please forgive any typos….
Not much has changed in my brief absence; I see that most school districts are in the same boat—school is starting up, budget levels are murky, at best, and everybody wants more money.
Districts in two of our coverage areas—Northville and Plymouth-Canton—are dealing with teacher contracts, too. One (in P-C) has been amicable so far, the other, not so much. Northville teachers and administration resolved to go to a fact-finder in early summer and are now pouring over the results of that process.
Well, here’s a simple fact: most districts (the smart ones, anyway) are not planning for a foundation allowance increase this year. Other costs are already going up—ones that school officials can’t control.
The days of guaranteed cost of living increases seem to be gone throughout the private sector, where health care costs have also been increasingly pushed back onto employees.
I’m as supportive of education as the next guy and believe teachers deserve the utmost respect. But the bottom line is: business in business, no matter what line of work you’re in.
