A subtle sign of danger

There was a subtle, yet alarming sign taped to the door of Wayne City Hall yesterday.
The Sept. 11 Planning Commission meeting has been cancelled because there are no projects (or applicants, I forget which).
Is this a sign that downtown revitalization, a slow process to begin with, is grinding to a halt? Or is it a sign that prospective business owners are waiting for the Michigan Avenue reconstruction project to be finished?
Either way, it seems odd that the commission wouldn’t do anything. In other communities, planning commissions take evenings when they have a light agenda to say, do some planning? Talk about goals?
If there’s nothing pressing on the table (which is sadly true) it’s the perfect time to get proactive and ensure there are fewer slow times in the future.
The planning commission should do more than just rubber stamp site plans.
