Less than a week after the state budget ‘solution’ was approved, lawmakers are already thinking about killing the sales tax spread to a variety of unusual services (i.e. those that didn’t have a lobby at all or one strong enough to influence votes.)
We probably all should’ve seen that coming. That would mean that the only new revenue stream would come from an increase in the income tax. Notice, too, that the word ‘temporary’ is no longer associated with that.
I still wonder if this was the plan from day one. All this political melodrama was unnecessary. They could have found a solution months ago that would have made everyone just as angry.
It just wouldn’t have painted our state in such an embarrassing light.
