For those in the greater Wayne community that are a little bored today—or tonight—there are a couple of things going on that provide a good time for a good cause.
The first is a Bowling for Scholars fundraiser at the Wayne Bowl on Michigan Avenue.
The Wayne Memorial Zebra Parent Advisory Council (Z-PAC) is hosting it to generate money for their turnaround scholarship. The turnaround scholarship is dedicated for a student who didn’t do so well during their first year or two in high school but have since made a dramatic improvement in their GPA. It takes place from 3:30-5:30 p.m., with a sign-in at 3 p.m.
Anyone is welcome to come. It costs $15.
The second takes place at the State Wayne Theater at 8 p.m. tonight. The theater is hosting a viewing of A Detroit Thing, an independent film that looks at Detroit through the trials and tribulations of the music scene. It follows 11 bands—including Kid Rock in the two years prior to his ascension to national prominent—as they make their way through the local scene.
It starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the restoration of the Historic Wayne Theater. There will also be an afterglow of sorts at U.S. 12.
Grab your bowling shoes and make a day of it!
