I’m not exactly sure when the press releases from Mitt Romney started rolling in, but when they did they came int he form of a flood of emails.
I’ve been getting several releases every day from the Romney camp and I’m sure editors at other papers are getting even more. The subject line in all of them starts: IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: and then describes his reaction to some minor political nuance.
As a local guy, I tend not to pay much attention to presidential politics in the early stages of the game, but I figured that this deluge of contact meant that Romney had the upper edge going into the primary season.
Well, in case you missed it, Mike Huckabee came out on top in Iowa, with Romney a relatively distant second.
“You know, just as Dan Jansen pointed out, you win the silver in one event, it doesn’t mean you’re not going to come back and win the gold in the final event and that we’re going to do,” was the canned quote from the former governor in one of the three ‘Romney Press Shop’ missives I found waiting for me this morning.
Maybe so. I still like to salute the victory to the underdog Huckabee, who may be coming on the scene at the right time.
This might make the Michigan primary more interesting in a couple of weeks. Will it have a long term impact on the race? Only time will tell.
