Yack won't be back

Whenever I asked Canton Supervisor Tom Yack if he’s running for re-election, he usually told me the same thing:
“I expect there will be an announcement within a month or two.”
That announcement came Friday.
Yack confirmed widespread speculation when he announced he would not run for a sixth term as supervisor.
“I call it the worst kept secret in Canton,” he said Friday afternoon.
He said he wanted to announce it now as a sort of official heads up to anyone that might consider seeking the office this year. First elected to the Canton board in 1988, he previously served on the Plymouth-Canton School Board and the Canton Public Library Board. He is the longest serving supervisor in the township.
It will be interesting to see who decides to run for the seat. Whoever it is, they’ll have some tough shoes to fill. Canton has made a lot of advances during the last 20 years.
It will help provide for a busy election season in Canton this year, indeed.
