Trashin' Republicans

Yesterday I got a press release emblazoned with the headline: ‘Canadian Trash-Truck Accidents shut down highways.’
It probably won’t come as a surprise that it was about garbage haulers from Ontario that overturned on their way to Michigan and that a few democrats, State Rep. Kathleen Law (D-Gibraltar) and State Rep. Marc Corriveau (D-Northville), took the opportunity to blast the Republican leadership in the Senate.
The State House approved a plan to crack down on Canadian trash a year ago, but the legislation hasn’t moved in the Senate. It would, among other things, increase the tipping fees at Michigan landfills to $7.50 per ton.
Anytime any incident like this happens, the democrats renew the fight. Pretty soon, everytime a Canadian drops a band-aid while they cross the river, the House Dems will have a response for it.
It is kind of curious why the senate hasn’t acted on the bill. Perhaps it’s not close enough to election season? Or maybe they’re too busy putting together legislation to make Canadians into better drivers?
