Perception vs. reality

There wasn’t a seat to be found at the town hall meeting last night on the Northville Psychiatric Hospital site.
Concerned residents filled the Highland Lakes clubhouse—both levels—and spilled out into the hallway and other rooms, too.
The Citizens For Northville (CFN) group tried to address the difference between the perception of the plan and the reality of the plan, take questions and, above all, get everyone involved.
There was some rabble rousing, of course, some scare tactics, some planted questions from both sides—typical town hall stuff.
We’ll have more on this in the paper this week, of course, but here’s a few preliminary thoughts:
Someone questioned the validity of the numbers thrown out by REIS, the $800 million investment, the number of jobs created and all that. Those came, if I’m not mistaken, from Silverlode, the consulting firm Northville Township used to evaluate the proposal, not from REIS.
I was also grateful to see a resident of Livonia step up and say she represented several people who were opposed to the concept of annexation.
The suggestion to write other legislators, not just the ones who represent Northville and its environs, was a good one, too. It’s always interesting to see if lawmakers listen to residents who don’t vote in their districts…
