Annexation petitions filed

Officials in Northville Township received the package they half-expected but hoped would never come this morning.
An annexation petition, signed by the security guards at the former Northville Psychiatric Hospital site, arrived at the office of Township Clerk Sue Hillebrand.
It looks like REIS is going through with long-rumored plans to try to annex the property to Livonia, despite the negative feelings that would come from such a move.
I admit, I’m a bit surprised. I never thought they would go through with it; it supports an attitude of arrogance that I can’t really wrap my mind around: “Don’t like our plan? Well, who needs you. We’ll just take it elsewhere.”
Weird. And how do you sell such a thing to the folks in Livonia, anyway? Do you approach the city council and residents and say: This project didn’t fit the standards of Northville Township, but we think you’re going to love it?”
Yeah. Welcome to the new neighborhood.
